The first tattoo machine was invented by Samuel F. O’Reilly in 1891. Before then tattoos were done using more traditional time consuming methods, and this invention revolutionised the art form.
The taboo around getting tattoos is almost non existent, with nearly 4 in 10 millennials sporting a piece of body art according to a report from the Pew Research Centre.
One brave woman, Casey Lubin got eleven tattoos in a week to showcase how trends in tattooing have changed over the last century for Cut Video. Each tattoo was done in the style of an iconic tattoo artist.
The most modern artist showcased Nikko Hurtado, has been known to let his celebrity clients tattoo him, but he has recently quit the industry to take up painting on canvas rather than skin. His work is absolutely stunning, and it’s clear why he was tattoo artist of choice for Drake and Cheryl Cole:
