This woman accidentally stole a car and her apology was very cute

It turns out you can accidentally steal a car!

As the saying goes, we all make mistakes, but those mistakes aren’t usually as big as this one!

A Portland woman made this error when she asked her friend to pick up her car.

Erin Hetzi, who owned the stolen car, got a fright when she realised her car was not in her driveway. She and her husband were obviously very panicked and called the police to report the theft.

However, the police didn’t need to look too far as the car returned safely to the driveway the next day.

The car had a note on it which explained the whole sitcom-worthy story.

It turns out one woman asked her friend to pick up her car. However, the friend jumped into the wrong car of the same description and drove off. Police confirmed that some Subaru car keys are interchangeable. Once the woman realised, she put the car back and sent a very apologetic note, along with money for fuel.

“Hello, So sorry I stole your car. I sent my friend with my key to pick up my red subaru at 7802 SE Woodstock and she came back with your car. I did not see the car until this morning and I said, ‘that is not my car.’ There is some cash for gas and I more than apologize for the shock and upset this must have caused you.”
So so sorry for this mistake.”  The note said.

So it was all a bit misunderstanding, although it’s a bit concerning that the keys to this model work in other random Subaru’s too!
