The Irish Photograph That Sold For Over A Million Dollars

This is absolutely fine.

Ellen Tannam

The potato is a humble vegetable, and we have great respect for it in all its incarnations, but this is just a step too far even for us.

Kevin Abosch is a photographer who has snapped the likes of Johnny Depp and Yoko Ono, but it’s his most recent photo sold that’s grabbing our attention. It’s a simple picture of a harvested potato, that has sold for over a million dollars. Yes, you read that correctly.

Abosch told Mashable about his inspiration behind the snap: “see commonalities between humans and potatoes that speak to our relationship as individuals within a collective species. Generally, the life of a harvested potato is violent and taken for granted. I use the potato as a proxy for the ontological study of the human experience.”

It was taken on a simple black background and shot with a single light source.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take some well-lit shots of some oven chips and see how I get on.
