Honest…. something that we’re very rarely when it comes to CVs, job applications and LinkedIn profiles.
When applying for a new opportunity, the key is to set yourself apart from the many others vying for the same position.
It turns out, there’s quite a few people out there with the same ‘positive’ attributes that employers are sick and tired of hearing.
Last month, LinkedIn published the top ten ‘buzzwords’ contained in job applications and so we decided to break down the list to reveal just what they really mean.
Time to add ‘honesty’ to that profile, folks…
1. Motivated
You’re motivated when it comes to moving from your bed to the kitchen and onto the couch at the weekend.
2. Enthusiastic…
You’re enthusiasm knows no bounds… Well, actually it does – The X Factor final, sales, Christmas, and wine.
3. Passionate
You have several passions, they’re just not things you would tell a future employer.
A short list of things you’re passionate about include; chocolate cake, Jamie Dornan’s Fifty Shades Of Grey sex scenes and completing the Irish Times crossword without any help.
4. Driven
Ironic turn of phrase given the fact you haven’t sat in a driver’s seat in over a year and your provisional licence is well out of date.
5. Track record…
Of bad dates, which is why you’ll spend Valentine’s Day alone (and happy).
6. Creative
The last time you were creative was for an Easter project in Senior Infants when you brought your parents home a card that had a picture of a cracked egg and chick peeping out of it. Creative genius that Matthew Buchannan would be proud of.
7. Extensive experience…
In looking for careers online. (Sadly there are not a lot of positions that allow you to be your own boss).
8. Responsible
You have managed to ‘fend for yourself’ while living alone all through your college yours. You’ve been responsible for your well-being, and congratulations are in order – you’re still alive and well.
9. Communication skills
Mutli-tasking may not be on this list but you have the ability to WhatsApp your group of best friends, update your Facebook status, tweet your thoughts, check Instagram, all while being on loudspeaker to your mother.
10. Ambitious
This one has a little truth in it.
