One Irish Girl Is Asking People To Do Something Pretty Special With Their Copper Coins

“It doesn’t take an awful lot to be kind to someone."

This is an idea we can totally get on board with.

With one and two cent coins no longer being used from this week, and everything in your local shop being rounded up to the nearest five cent, one Irish girl has come up with a unique idea for all of your unused copper coins.

Ashling Dunphy got in touch with Her.ie to tell us all about her idea ‘Coppers for a Cuppa’ and we think it’s pretty genius.

“I’m sure loads of people will have a jar or some sort of container at home and I’m asking them to put all of their one and two cent coins, or any change into this jar,” she began.

“Put a sticker on it saying #CoppersForACuppa. The main thing about this campaign is you save all your coppers and change until Christmas (or whenever your container is full).

“Then go to your nearest shop or garage with a coin counting service. With the money you have saved in the jar, go out and buy a homeless person(s) a cup of tea and a sandwich or something small.

“Be it on your way to work, shopping, walking or whenever you may be passing a homeless person.

“It doesn’t take an awful lot to be kind to someone. We all have coins in the house and at the bottom of our handbags – it all adds up. Every little bit helps.”

That sounds like a pretty fantastic idea to us, good on ya Ashling!
