When you were born, you were probably given a name. Perhaps your parents decided to wait a while before picking something, or maybe they knew from the second they conceived you what you were going to be called. Either way, you were born, your name was registered, and here we are. Chances are as well that you may or may not have been called the following name seeing as how popular it is in Ireland. As far back as 1964, the name 'Emily' has been steadily growing in popularity among new parents. So much so that it's even been the top name for baby girls for the past six years in a row. That's a lot of Emilys. Thanks to a new baby name app launched by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), we can now check what baby names were popular in whar years, how many baby names were registered in specific years, and how long it took for other baby names to make it all the way to Ireland. For instance, there were no babies in Ireland with the name 'Jade' until 1974. And then, there were only three. Emily, on the other hand, has been popular as far back as the app goes - the mid 60s. She's continued to grow in popularity too, with 490 babies being registered as Emily in 2016, 626 in 2015, and 619 in 2014. Boys have had similar name success too, with 'Jack' being the top baby name for nine years in a row from 2007 to 2015. Last year, this name was barely beaten by 'James' with just four more babies being registered as such.
