An old-school romantic surprised his wife by taking her back to the cinema where they shared their first date 50 years before.
Gordon Olley, now 67, even made sure that the Beatles movie A Hard Day’s Night was playing for the occasion just as it had in 1964 when they first met.
Gordon took wife Mary to the Dereham cinema in Norfolk, where he surprised her with balloons and a pre-planned date.
Speaking to Metro UK, Mary, 65 said:
“I never expected anything like this. When I got out of the car and saw the balloons at the cinema I just burst into tears.
“It’s a lovely thing to do and it brought back so many golden memories.”
The two had first when Mary tagged along on a date with her friend Edna, who Gordon was seeing at the time. Gordon admitted that he soon realised it was her he really wanted and they were married three years later.
Gordon and Mary, who have three sons and five grandchildren were thankful to the theatre owners for allowing him to rent it out:
“I bought a copy when it was released on DVD and the people at the cinema have been so nice to let us do this.”
