Lend A Hand – Four Great Irish Causes To Get Behind This Week

These causes need your help.

Sue Murphy

Every week in the Her.ie offices we are inundated with requests from people asking us to help them promote their charity events. While every cause is worthwhile, unfortunately we can’t get around to all of them and so for that reason, we have decided to put together some of these events from around the country. Every week, we will feature five events you should get behind or get involved with over the next few months. There are tonnes of amazing organisations in this country, let’s help them out.

1. Charity Tattoo Day for My Canine Companion

CRU Tattoo (Dublin)will be hosting a tattoo day on behalf of My Canine Companion, autism services for children on August 16th from 10am, at CRU tattoo, Middle Abbey, Street Dublin.

Proceeds from the event will go to My Canine Companion who trains Service Dogs for children and young adults with Autism.

For more information on the event or to support them, you can log on to their Facebook page here.

3. “To Russia With Love” in Clifden.

These 14 men, supported by local businesses and organisations, will allow the public to decide through a text voting system who should take the inaugural title of Connemara Man 2014, with all proceeds going directly to the charity. Prizes on offer for the winner will include a years membership of Clifden Station House Leisure Centre, a suit from Hehirs of Clifden and Dubarry Boots from Millars Connemara.

The Connemara Man will be announced on the night of the 14th august in an evening of fun & fashion, where East will meet West, in the courtyard of the Clifden Station House.

All proceeds for the event will go to To Russia With Love which help children in orphanages in Russia. You can find out more info here.

Full details on how to vote for your Connemara man can be found on Facebook “The Connemara Man Competition” or for more information contact Michele Hehir on 087 2322451

4.  Dublin to Beijing in aid of The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation, Our Lady’s Hospital.

Stephen Cunningham is raising funds for the The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation, Our Lady’s Hospital and he needs your help.

“My name is Stephen Cunningham, I’m 28, Irish and pretty average. I’ve have had a long-standing dream of cycling from Dublin to Beijing. Why? For the craic, and to raise some money for an outstanding cause while I’m at it.

In January 2014, I’ll start my cycle through 15 countries, covering 15 to 16 thousand kilometers through Europe and Asia. Through wind, rain, sun and probably snow. Over mountains and across deserts. I’ll have less than 9 months to do it as my sister is getting married in September, so the pressure is on!

I’ll use this site to keep supporters up to date on my progress before and during my adventure.

If you’d like to support the charity, you can donate on the Sponsorship Page Here.”

So far, Stephen cycled over 10,000km, through 21 countries, and has managed to raise over €10,000 – it would be great if we could help get him to the €50,000 target – well deserved for all of his efforts! To support his cause, you can donate online here:http://www.cmrf.org/user_main/fundraiser/36807/.

If you have a charity event you would like us to help with, please send us an email to [email protected] or to [email protected].
