The world’s happiest countries were revealed this week and unfortunately for us, Ireland did not feature in the top ten.

The Emerald Isle didn’t end up too badly though, featuring in 36th place, with the UK in 43rd position and the US in 15th.

The survey, which was carried out by Gallup, shows that people in Central and South America are the happiest in the world with 70% of people in Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Venezuela saying that they experience enjoyment, they smile and laugh and feel treated with respect.

Indeed, that region seems to be the place to be as the top 10 countries – out of 143 countries polled – were revealed to include Paraguay at number one followed by Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Honduras.

The remainder of the top ten was made up of Panama, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
