Finishing final exams in college is a bittersweet experience. Never again will you have to stay up all night cramming knowledge into your addled brain. But to the same token, you’ll never again have such a fun-filled existence surrounded by all of your best friends. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, folks.
Here’s our take on expectation versus reality when it comes to finishing college exams.
1. The big night out after you finish that last exam
Expectation: This is it. This is the big one. If ever there was a time to party until the cows come home (and then party with the cows), this will be it. It’s the most excited you’ll ever be for a night out.
Reality: Two drinks in, the struggle to keep your eyes open becomes real. Exhaustion hits. All of the exhaustion. 10pm rolls around and it’s time to go home and crash. For several days. And in some cases, several weeks.
2. Waiting to get those results
Expectation: I worked hard all year, I’ve got this. Nothing to worry about here.
Reality: You didn’t actually work very hard. You’ve never been more worried about anything in your life. You start having nightmares. For those couple of weeks between finishing your last exam and waiting for your results, you are the fear.
3. The job prospects
Expectation: I’ve got an awesome degree in my pocket. There’ll be people lining up to give me jobs. Lining up outside my front door.
Reality: ……………………………………….
4. Applying for that postgrad degree
Expectation: I’ve just had an incredible college experience. Sure I’ve got loads to tell these people about myself. How could anyone not want me in their university?
Reality: You can’t think of one single thing to say about yourself. And you’re not even sure why you’re actually applying.
5. Saying goodbye to your college roomies
Expectation: I’ll hardly keep in touch with all of them. Everybody is taking off to the four corners of the world.
Reality: Nope, these people remain your bestest, closest friends for life. And that’s a very, very special thing.
Sprite, the truth is refreshing.
