A fantastic way to help out a great cause.

The annual VHI Women’s Mini Marathon might be over three months away (it’s set to take place on Monday 1st June), but if you’re getting involved on behalf of a charity, it’s time to start thinking about which cause you’d like to help out most.

A charity certainly worth considering this year is Barretstown. Based in Co. Kildare, and founded by Hollywood legend, Paul Newman, Barretstown is a specially-designed camp that provides unique therapeutic recreation programmes for children with serious illnesses and their families.

Whilst being closely supervised and skilfully supported by committed experts, the children get to go out, play and have fun, with life-changing results.

Barretstown gives families the comfort of knowing that there are comprehensive medical facilities on site, while offering an extensive programme of arts, adventure and challenge for all campers. Through its achievements, the children stop seeing themselves as ‘sick kids’ and begin to regain their own inner strength, confidence and self-esteem – all adding up to some serious fun.

All of the children and families go to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food and medical assistance are provided at no cost to families. To find out more visit http://www.barretstown.org, email the team at [email protected] or phone 045 864 115.

And if you are thinking about getting involved in the mini marathon on behalf of a charity, keep Barretstown in mind. It’s a fantastic cause which helps hundreds of Irish families every year. To sign up to raise funds for Barretstown and for more information, click here.
