This is so important.
It’s far easier to be critical of ourselves than it is to be critical of others.
While it’s not difficult to dismiss people’s comments about their own appearance if we don’t agree with them, it’s also good to remind ourselves that sometimes people don’t see what everybody else does.
Blogger Louise Aubery made this exact point in a recent Instagram post.
The posts shows the same picture of the French blogger twice, side by side, as she poses on a beach.
On one of the pictures, Aubery has pointed out (with arrows) the compliments that are usually paid to her when she posts an image. They include ‘big smile,’ ‘long legs,’ and ‘strong butt.’
The right side of the post shows what Louise sees when she posts a picture of herself: ‘big nose,’ ‘back fat,’ and ‘cellulite.’
The blogger shared the comparison to encourage others to try to be less critical of themselves.
In the post’s caption, she wrote:
“Whenever I see a picture of me, the first things which catches my eyes are my FLAWS.
I always see what is wrong. “Too close.” “My nose appears too big.” “My legs look too white.” “I look terrible.”“YET, I really do not look at people’s flaws first when I look at a picture of someone else ! On the contrary, I tend to focus on their assets.”
Louise went on to say that seeing as we tend to focus on other people’s positive qualities, we should learn to focus on our own too.
She said that being so harsh on ourselves is unhealthy, and that she was going to work on her own struggle with self-image.
The post gained over 10,000 likes in just one day, with Instagram users applauding Louise’s honesty.
“Puts a very good perspective on things,” wrote one user. “Thanks for the motivation,” said another.
The blogger already has over 50,000 followers on the app, and we’re expecting that number to grow a lot due to the popularity of this frank and important post.
