A 70-year-old woman who has been blind for the past two decades has miraculously regained her sight after a fall in her home.
Mary Ann Franco damaged her spine and lost her sight in a car accident in 1995.
Franco was admitted to hospital for a procedure on her back after she fell in her Florida home. Doctor’s are unable to explain how the procedure resulted in the return of her eyesight.
A neurosurgeon, John Afshar, told The Telegraph he believes the miracle recovery is a result of a kinked artery.
“When we performed the surgery itself, we unknowingly probably unkinked that vessel reestablishing blood flow and, therefore, she could have regained her vision,” he said.
More incredibly, Franco was colour-blind before the accident but has now gained the ability to correctly identify colours.
“You’re in blue and brown, and your tie is kind of brownish,” she said, when she first saw her doctor, “Yeah, you’re so handsome.”
According to ABC, Franco was most excited to see her family. Her daughter flew in from Michigan to see her and Franco couldn’t stop complimenting her appearance.
“This is my daughter? Oh my God! Isn’t she beautiful” she said.
