Shake up your hump day with pre-made Margaritas from Dublin’s 777

Leslie Ann Horgan

After what feels like, oh, 20,000 days in lockdown, we’re getting used to the new normal.

And also the benefits of the new normal, like turning what was commute time into cocktail hour. They call them ‘sundowners’ in the States, and we wholeheartedly approve.

It’s not for the alcohol, really – a mid-week hangover is not to be encouraged, even when you’re wfh – but the way that cocktails make us feel a little bit fancy, and remind us of those carefree times when, you know, we could go outside.

If, like us, your homemade cocktail attempts are little more than orange juice mixed with that bottle of local spirit you brought back from Lanzarote three years ago, you’ll be glad to hear that lots of restaurants around the country are now offering pre-made cocktails along with their take out or home delivery menus.

Since we all have a lot more time on our hands lately… let’s get to know 777’s Fab staff better. Sit back and enjoy. -This is Amy. She’s kept herself busy the last 2 weeks painting a mandala. If you don’t know what that is, she promised a video soon… – Amy’s been a bartender with us for a year and a half. – This cheeky girl is from Dublin and the only language she speaks is Sarcasm and Total Bollix which she uses often to wreck her colleague’s heads (which she is the best at). -Her favourite dish from the menu is Tuna Toastoda and Tuna Pasta when hungover. Also Her Ma makes the best mash potato… surprising for an Irish woman. – Amy has 9 piercings and only god knows how many tattoos – She loves eating @madeggdublin cos “you are what you eat”. – Once upon a time, the talented 8 year old Amy won 4 gold medals for table tennis in Spain. She admires them daily on her wall of fame.

And if you live in Dublin city, the very good news is that 777 is among them.

The George’s Street restaurant is known for its Mexican food, but adored for its Margaritas. The stuff of many’s an enviable Insta post, if you’ve been missing them or you always meant to try them, now is your chance.

777 has added Margaritas at Home to its take out offering, which can be collected from the city centre restaurant itself as we as from its sister Dillingers in Ranelagh.

For €40, you get a pre-made 750ml bottle of the tequila-based cocktail, which the owners say is enough for five of their signature (read: strong) Margaritas. It also comes with a sachet of Maldon salt and a lime to decorate the rim your glass for the authentic (read: photogenic) Margarita experience.

There’s also a 777 at home menu on offer, which is designed to be shared by two people. For €50, you can enjoy a starter of tortillas and tips, a selection of chorizo, chicken and mushroom taquitos with sides for mains, and a chocolatey dessert. The kit ones with instructions for heating and assembling the food.

The Margaritas at home can be ordered with food or as a stand alone order. Collection from 777, is from from 5pm to 9.30pm from Thursday to Sunday, and you can pre-order by calling 01 425 4052 from midday between Monday and Saturday.
