We’re about to see the return of Sir David Attenborough, 97, as it’s been confirmed that he’ll be back to host the third season of Planet Earth.
The first season, Planet Earth, of the series dropped in 2006 and Sir Attenborough filmed the sequel, Planet Earth II, a decade later.
Planet Earth III has been five years in the making and is set to air this autumn.
According to The Mirror, BBC bosses were just as thrilled to see the return of the environmentalist.
Mike Gunton, the show’s executive producer, told the outlet that ‘Planet Earth wouldn’t be Planet Earth without David.’
You can say that again.
Gunton explained that the opening of the newest season will see the veteran broadcaster looking at the beautiful British countryside ‘in exactly the location where Charles Darwin used to walk whilst thinking over his Earth-shaking ideas about evolution.’
“It seemed the perfect place for David to introduce Planet Earth III and remind us of both the wonders and the fragility of our planet,” the executive producer said.
Much like its BAFTA winning predecessor, Planet II, fans can expect seven episodes of behind the scenes footage of animals around the world.
And in the eighth episode of the new seasons, there will be a celebration of human ‘heroes’ who dedicate their lives to trying to save certain species.
