The trailer for Netflix’s The Innocent Man is here and we are hyped

Making A Murderer, who?

Just kidding, Making A Murderer is great and lots of people like it.

It will never be forgotten even though season two was extremely anti-climactic (it was, don’t @ us), but the first 10 or so episodes had enough shocks and horror that it solidified the documentary as one of the most explosive and talked about shows of the past 10 years.

Since then, true crime has all but dominated the Netflix sphere, and with good reason too – it’s class.

The streaming service’s latest offering looks to be no different either, and if the hype surrounding its release is anything to go by, this is going to be one for the binge-list.

Based on the book by John Grisham, The Innocent Man tells the story of two separate murders and the four men who were accused of committing them.

Debbie Carter and Denice Haraway were murdered in Oklahoma in 1982 and 1984 respectively.

Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz, and Tommy Ward and Karl Fontendt were arrested and convicted of the crimes some time later, despite suspicions that their confessions may have been coerced.

Fritz and Williamson were exonerated due to DNA evidence after serving over 10 years of their sentences. Williamson had been five days away from being executed when he received the news.

Ward and Fontendt remain in prison for murder but have always maintained their innocence.

“If I wrote The Innocent Man as a novel, folks probably wouldn’t believe it,” Grisham said.

“In small towns like Ada, the prosecutors and the police were under enormous pressure to solve two sensational murders. We just don’t expect the police to play dirty.

“It’s all about winning. And along the way, if the truth gets blurred or twisted, that’s too bad.”

The six-part series features interviews with Grisham, legal experts, and members of The Innocence Project – a non-profit that aims to free wrongly convicted people from prison.

Sounds like it’s gonna be a good ‘un anyway.

The Innocent Man will be available to stream on Netflix on December 14.
