That Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o heist movie is happening and we’re buzzing

From internet meme to Netflix screenplay – that Rihanna and Lupita movie is happening.

It all started back in 2014 with a simple meme of Grammy Award winner Rihanna and Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o looking fierce at a Miu Miu fashion show. “They look like they're in a heist movie with Rihanna as the tough-as-nails leader/master thief and Lupita as the genius computer hacker” read the caption, and thus the concept was born. The image spread like wildfire across the internet, and even reappeared on our feeds earlier this year. Hundreds of thousands of shares later, the two women finally took notice and took to Twitter to share their support for the potential project.

Well, not after negotiations, Netflix have tied down the rights to the film project and we’re very excited. Netflix apparently faught tooth and nail against multiple other production companies, however the streaming giant won out in the end. Twitter have even picked their director and writer for the film, Ava DuVernay and Issa Rae – and according to their profiles, the two seem on board.

We have some time to wait before we see the fruits of this labour however, with production not set to start till next year.
