REVIEW: Trainwreck Starring Amy Schumer

We loved it!

Rebecca McKnight

Pretending to fall asleep to get out of sexual things, losing condoms in strange places and embarrassing dirty talk. These are just a few of things that pop up in Trainwreck and they are exactly why we loved it.

Judd Apatow, of Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin fame, is at the helm with Amy Schumer penning the script.

Amy Schumer and Bill Hader lead the cast.

Amy Townsend (Schumer) has decided to live by her father’s words – “monogamy is not realistic” – and appears to be enjoying life.

Little does she know is that her boss (Tilda Swinton) is going to give her an assignment that will change her outlook entirely.

Said assignment introduces her to sports doctor Aaron Connors (Bill Hader) who spends his days operating on big stars including LeBron James (who we have to say is brilliant as himself).

LeBron James appears as himself in the movie.

Trainwreck is a refreshing and realistic take on the romantic comedy with believable characters and awkward encounters.

It delivers some hilarious one-liners but there are also some real moments of drama (we may have shed a few tears at one point).

The tongue-in-cheek sense of humour teeters on the edge of inappropriateness but it works and the laughs continue up until the very end.

Tilda Swinton as magazine editor Dianna.

In other words, the movie never loses sight of what it is. Yes, there are some emotional moments but essentially this is a comedy and a successful one at that.

The cast is also very strong. In fact we reckon some of the more minor characters, notably played by LeBron James and Tilda Swinton, would steal the show if Amy Schumer wasn’t so hilarious and likeable.

By the end credits, only two questions remained in our minds: does garlic actually affect the taste of sperm and why has it taken so long for Amy Schumer to make this film?
