It's already falling apart.

It’s already falling apart.

News broke yesterday that The Great British Bake Off would be moving to Channel 4 after the BBC lost the rights to the show.

According to BBCLove Productions, the producers of The Great British Bake Off, signed a contract with Channel 4, with the first version of the new addition being shown in the format of Celebrity Bake Off in 2017.

The BBC had been in negotiations for a year with the production company and called a “last-ditch” meeting on Monday in the hopes of convincing them to stay but later that evening they signed a three-year deal with Channel 4.

Jay Hunt of Channel 4 confirmed the news:

“Channel 4 is very proud to be the new home for The Great British Bake Off. “I’m delighted we have been able to partner with the hugely talented team at Love Productions to keep this much loved show on free-to-air television.”

Now, it’s just been confirmed that the hosts, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, will not return once it moves to Channel 4.

Up until now, Mel and Sue hadn’t said much since the news broke but Sue clearly showed how she felt after she shared a tweet from the BBC which showed their disappointment.

And now they’ve just released the following statement confirming their departure:

“We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. “We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.”

This leaves massive question marks over whether or not Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry would also return. What would the show be without them?
