Hitting The Big Screen: 10 Of The Best TV To Movie Adaptations

Her

With Entourage, one of our all-time favourite TV shows, hitting the big screen this week, it’s got us thinking about other great television series that made the successful move to the big screen.

Here’s a run-down (in no particular order) of ten of the best TV to movie adaptations. Have your favourites made the list?

1. Charlie’s Angels (2000)

“Good Morning Charlie.”

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu teamed up to take the classic 70s series to the big screen. The result? One of the most successful female action movies. Ever. The legendary Bill Murray starred as Bosley and Matt Le Blanc and LL Cool J also made appearances. This needs to re-watched.

2. The Simpsons (2007)

The film that brought us Spider Pig.

Packed full of hilarious and heart-warming moments, The Simpson Movie brought us some of the show’s most iconic moments. It’s hard to believe that the show was on air for a full 18 years before the release of the film. Anyone for a sequel?

3. Sex and The City (2008)

The first one, not the sequel (obvs).

The style, the wedding drama, the epic Carrie-Miranda fall-out, the walk-in wardrobe, and those blue shoes. We loved every bit of the Sex and The City Movie, and we could watch it over and over again.

4. The Inbetweeners (2011)

Again, the first one, not the sequel (obvs).

We were thrilled to hear our four favourite socially awkward teenagers were teaming up to make a motion picture. And they didn’t disappoint. Bigger, bolder and more ridiculous than the original show, The Inbetweeners Movie was packed full of laugh out loud moments. And one iconic dance scene.

5. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)

So funny it deserves to get its complete title.

When Sacha Baren Cohen announced he was taking Borat to the big screen, cinema goers around the the world took a collective intake of breath. And he did not hold back. Jammed full of outrageous, offensive moments, and one unforgettable piece of swimwear, we loved every minute of it.

6. The Addams Family (1991)

Featuring Christina Ricci’s breakout role as the mischievous Wednesday Addams.

In this hugely successful film the ever-so-entertaining and eccentric lifestyle of the Addams family is threatened when the family attorney and a greedy mother/son team conspire to steal the family fortune.

7. Monty Python – The Life of Brian (1979)

One of the most memorable finale scenes of any movie, ever.

This classic film from the Monty Python gang was deemed so controversial at the time of its release that it was banned from Irish cinemas. Starring all our favourites, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, The Life of Brian represents religious satire at its finest.

8. 21 Jump Street (2012)

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill proved themselves a formidable duo in this highly successful big screen adaption of the original 80s TV show. Action-packed, good fun comedy and more make it a thoroughly entertaining watch.

9. The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)

A must-watch every Christmas.

Not the best version of Charles Dickens’ epic tale to grace the big screen, but it sure is the funniest. And most heart-warming. The Muppets Christmas Carol features some of the best moments (and music!) from Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang.

10. Mr Bean (1997)

Everyone’s favourite silent actor lit up the big screen.

Mr Bean. Dealing with priceless pieces of art. In Los Angeles. What could possibly go wrong? Everything under the sun. And the result is some of our favourite slapstick comedy captured on film.

Entourage will be in cinemas nationwide on 19 June. Check out the trailer below.
