Ed Sheeran was once worried that he’d never win a Grammy

He needn’t have been concerned.

Taylor Swift has revealed that Ed Sheeran once told her he’d never win a Grammy award.

“A few years ago, in a rare moment of admitting feeling defeated, Ed said to me, “I’m never going to win a Grammy,” writes Taylor in TIME Magazine.

She continues:

“It was a few weeks later when he met me in a dance-shoe store in London, where I was picking out rehearsal outfits, and said, ‘You have to hear this.’ It was a song he’d just finished called ‘Thinking Out Loud,’ which went on to win Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards in 2016.”

The self-doubt was uncharacteristic of the British singer-songwriter, she says.

“He is protected by an impenetrable and ever-present armor of enthusiasm that has helped him endure any setback, letdown or underestimation. His reaction to any idea that fails is to almost immediately come up with a new one.”

Taylor was writing in TIME to mark Ed’s inclusion in the publication’s 100 Most Influential People list for 2017.

He in fact has two Grammys under his belt – he won Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

He also beat Adele to have the fastest-selling UK release ever with his album ÷ earlier this year, so it’s safe to say Ed needn’t be too worried about his success.
