Bear Grylls’ new Netflix show is a choose your own adventure survival story

Jade Hayden

This’ll be class.

Remember towards the end of last year when Netflix dropped Bandersnatch onto our screens and everybody was fairly delighted?

It was a new Black Mirror episode, but it was better, because it was a choose your own adventure story and you didn’t have to adhere to the ending that the show’s writers had mapped out for you.

Rather, you could choose your own and determine the main character Stefan’s destiny. Or, you could decide which brutal way you killed him.

Whichever.

Bandersnatch was fairly revolutionary for a couple of reasons. The first was because there had never been an interactive feature film like it released before.

The second was because it suddenly became apparently that Netflix was going to try to do the choose your own adventure bit with lots of other features too.

And they have – their latest one is a Bear Grylls show where audiences will have to make decisions to help Bear survive and thrive in some of the harshest conditions on earth.

And yeah, it sounds like it’ll be class, in fairness.

The trailer shows Bear in a selection of scenarios that could be potentially life threatening including climbing up a mountain and crossing some icy terrain.

Unlike previous Bear shows though, it’ll then be up to the audience to decide what Bear does to stay alive.

Will you walk or crawl? Will you climb or stay put? Will you drink your own pee or not?

We’ll have to wait until April 10 to find out.
