Anne Hathaway confirms work on Princess Diaries 3 is underway and we are SO excited

A much-needed update.

For the last few years, there have been many, many rumours about a possible third instalment of The Princess Diaries.  Back in 2017, there were some rumours of a possible script - and that some of out favourite characters were keen to return for the project, including  Mandy Moore (Lana Thomas), Heather Matarazzo (Lilly Moscovitz), Chris Pine (Nicholas Devereaux). And, naturally,  Julie Andrews (Queen Clarisse Renaldi) and Anne Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis) - it wouldn't really be the same without them, would it? The Devil Wears Prada actress gave fans an update on the long-rumoured third film during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live earlier this week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDJ_BAzmdoE She said:

"There is a script for the third movie. "I want to do it. Julie [Andrews] wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. "We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. "It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it so..."

Andrews, meanwhile, told Buzzfeed in 2017 that she would "very willingly and happily" take part in a third instalment of the beloved series. She said:

"There’s talk about it. And [Hathaway]'s very keen to do it. I would very willingly and happily do it.

"Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to…."
