Emmerdale bosses have confirmed that Robert Sugden is to make a return to the village next month.
Robert left the village in 2005 and returned briefly for his father’s funeral in 2009. Previously played by Karl Davies, Ryan Hawley will take over the role when Robert heads back to Emmerdale in October.
There has been speculation about him returning to the show after viewers saw his brother Andy receive a text from him. Andy (Kevin Fletcher) and Katie (Sammy Winward) are currently preparing to tie the knot but Robert’s return is set to cause trouble.
Katie and Andy are loved up at the moment
Avid fans of the show will probably know that Robert and Katie had an affair years ago and since then there is no love lost between the brothers.
Emmerdale‘s series producer Kate Oates said: “I’m delighted to welcome Ryan to the show. Robert is a complex character and when we were looking for someone to take over the role, Ryan had the perfect balance of charm and edge.
“Robert Sugden’s life has moved on in many ways… but those ingrained feelings – about his father, Andy, Katie, and the village where he grew up – are sure to find an explosive outlet.”
