Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen has opened up about the reason she left the show.
Gossip Girl actress Taylor Momsen recently reunited with her on-screen brother Penn Badgley and reflected on the show that catapulted her to fame.
Speaking on the You actor’s podcast, the singer said she left the show to pursue her music career.
The actress was best known for playing Jenny Humphrey in the series but left the series after season four.
“[Acting] was a childhood thing that I got put into at 2 years old. I wasn’t making my own choices then.
“Literally, as soon as I got to an age where I could make my own decisions, it was like a click… I woke up one morning and went, ‘Wait a second. I don’t have to do this?
She said she realised she didn’t have to continue working on Gossip Girl and knew it was time to move on.

She continued, “I can just play in my band and tour and write songs? I can just do that?”
“You can just do that. I have the ability to create my life how I want to live it…’ It was like a light bulb went off.”
“I uprooted and changed my life overnight,” she said.
“[Production] went, ‘Well, we can’t let you out of your deal, but we can write you out of the show so you can go on tour. You can’t act in anything else, though.'”
She praised the Gossip Girl team for being so supportive of her during her exit.
“They really allowed me to follow my dream, and I’m forever grateful and thankful to them for that.”
