The comedian took to Instagram to confirm the news last night, revealing that it was the “opportunity of a lifetime”.

Sharing an image of an Oscar, the star wrote:
“For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same…I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s suppose to.”
Continuing he wrote:
“To be able to join the legendary list of host that have graced that stage is unbelievable. I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right now. I want to thank my family/friends/fans for supporting me & riding with me all this time….”
This will be Kevin’s first time ever hosting the Oscars and the Daily Mail reports that he will become the third African American to ever host the prestigious event following in the footsteps of Whoopi Goldberg who has hosted the awards three times and Chris Rock who has hosted the awards twice.
Hart will follow Jimmy Kimmel who hosted the awards last year.
