Lena Dunham's quirky personality and down to earth attitude has gained her a massive following

Cathy Donohue

Lena Dunham has opened up about her daily battle with OCD in an interview with Marie Claire, saying that she belives medication and therapy are important parts of keeping a healthy frame of mind.

Just like her TV character Lena is open about her personal life, “There are days when I don’t feel like doing it but it’s like exercise. Except I am more likely to go for therapy than exercise.”

She has been seeing a therapist regularly, attributing her progress to this and also takes prescribed medication on occasion: “I take a tiny bit of Lexapro [an antidepressant]  and I keep Klonopin [an anti anxiety medication] in my purse just in case,’ she told Marie Claire.

Girls has been likened to a modern day Sex and the City as it focuses on the lives of four girls living in New York. Depression, sex, divorce, drugs and career worries are just some of the issues covered, all of which women face on a daily basis.

The actress has been with her boyfriend, Jack Antonoff, guitarist in the band Fun for over a year and coupling up was a pleasant surprise for the star: “I didn’t expect to find someone who would understand where I was coming from in this way.”

Lena is happily coupled up with boyfriend Jack

Her body has been the source of much discussion, given that she has stripped off while playing Hannah more than once.  She maintains that it’s not “sexy or glamorous” but it is important: “I don’t think I’d be able to do it if I didn’t think it was essentially important in my contribution to the world.”

We can’t wait to see Lena and her girls back on screen… hurry up Series Three!
