The end date for fuel allowance recipients is fast approaching
Social welfare recipients across Ireland are being reminded that the current season of the Fuel Allowance programme is drawing to a close, with the final payment scheduled for April 5th 2024.
The Fuel Allowance, which commenced on Monday, September25th 2023, typically runs for a duration of 28 weeks.
Eligible people receive a weekly payment of €33, aimed at assisting with the costs of heating during the colder months.
Those eligible for the scheme include those living alone or with specific household members, residing in Ireland, and receiving certain qualifying payments.
Among the qualifying payments are State Pensions (Contributory and Non-Contributory), Widow’s, Widower’s or Surviving Civil Partner’s Pensions, Disability Allowance, One-Parent Family Payment, and various other social assistance payments.
Recipients have the option to receive the Fuel Allowance either on a weekly basis or in two lump sums, amounting to €462 for each payment.
To be considered eligible, you must meet specific criteria regarding their living arrangements and financial circumstances.
For instance, recipients must live alone or with dependent spouses, partners, or cohabitants and/or dependent children.
Other eligible household members include those receiving Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Benefit, short-term Jobseeker’s Allowance, or basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance.
Additionally, eligibility extends to people who are unable to provide for their heating needs, ensuring that those most in need of assistance receive support during the colder months.
As the end of the current Fuel Allowance season approaches, recipients are encouraged to be mindful of the conclusion and to plan accordingly for any changes in their financial circumstances.
Those looking to continue with the payments from next September are advised that they do not need to take any action now. Payments will automatically kick off once again in September 2024.
