We all probably say ‘Zara’ like you see it, ‘Zaa-Raa’. Well, we’re all wrong apparently.
According to Refinery29, it’s said in a completely different way.
While on a trip to see the retailer’s design studios in A Coruña, northern Spain, they began to realise that they were saying ‘Zara’ way differently to the guys working in the studios.
Zara is based in Arteixo, Spain, which has a Northern Castilian dialect. In that region they pronounce ‘Zs’ with a soft ‘th’ and ‘Rs’ are more like ‘d’.
So, phonetically it should be pronounced ‘thsah-dah’, but if you were to use it often and quickly you would probably say it like ‘saaa-daaaa’.
We’d like to see how you’d get on in town asking where the nearest ‘saaa-daaaa’ is.
