Taoiseach Enda Kenny was not a welcome sight in Tuam, Co. Galway on Monday evening, as protesters turned out in force to demonstrate against the water charges.
Chanting, “Shame, shame, shame on you” along with “Enda in your Ivory Tower this is called People Power”, the protesters surrounded the Taoiseach’s car as it entered the town.
The large crowd in attendance at the protest further highlights the public feeling on the upcoming introduction of water charges in Ireland. Monday night’s protest follows on from a number of other protests around the country in the last week, including major protests in Santry and Coolock in Dublin.
The Taoiseach remains under continuing pressure to clarify the government’s stance on the charges.
Entitled, “Get out of Tuam Enda Kenny. Your (sic) not wanted” this video was uploaded on Monday evening.
