Two students have died after they fell from the sixth floor balcony of an apartment block in London.

An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, who were attending a party, were pronounced dead at the scene at Knights Tower in Deptford.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning, is not being treated as suspicious.

Samson Oguntayo, who lives in a neighbouring building, saw the tragic accident unfold. He said:  “They were trying to have sex on the balcony.

“The guy was lifting the girl and putting her on the banister… The last thing I expected was to see them falling down. We just screamed”.

Detective Chief Superintendant Helen Millichap told BBC News: “We believe this was a tragic accident involving two young people who were students attending a local college.

“We will work closely with the college to make sure any affected students receive information and support. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of these young people”.
