A bomb threat was made against the office of Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly this morning.

The threat was made against the TD’s office in Nenagh, Co Tipperary a spokesperson confirmed today.

The Minister told RTE that the threat was “shocking and disgraceful” and that the incident was “a very traumatic and upsetting experience for my staff. The matter has been referred to the gardaí.”

According to RTE, Mr Kelly’s spokesperson has linked the bomb threat to opposition against the water charges. Reports claim that a woman allegedly called the Minister’s office this morning using abusive language and threatening the office with a bomb.

Also speaking this afternoon to RTE was Aodhán Ó Riordáin, Minister for State, who added that the “level of fear and intimidation was not acceptable” and explained that his office had also received threats.

He also made reference to the recent protests in Jobstown in Dublin, which saw Tánaiste Joan Burton get hit with a water balloon before reportedly being trapped inside her car for over two hours.

Elsewhere, the Irish Water protests continue to rage on with nearly 100 protesters turning out in Limerick to protest at an event that is being attended by Michael Noonan, Minister for Finance.
