A man is being questioned by gardaí today in relation to an alleged attempt to abduct a child in County Laois.
The incident is believed to have taken place on Wednesday at Cullahill, when the man driving a four-wheel drive vehicle stopped and spoke to two children before putting the girl into his vehicle.
According to The Irish Times, she managed to escape when her younger brother raised the alarm and witnesses have reported that the driver had been acting suspiciously before the incident.
A nationwide alert was raised and details of the man’s vehicle, which had been reported stolen on Tuesday, were released.
The man has now been arrested in Kilkenny and is being questioned at Portlaoise Garda Station.
Gardaí have said they are treating it as an isolated incident.
