Gardaí launch investigation after body recovered from river in Tipperary

It’s understood the man had been missing for several days.

Gardai have launched an investigation after a man’s body was discovered in a river in Co. Tipperary.

On Wednesday, at around 1pm, the body was recovered near the area of Gortnahoe.

The man was believed to be aged in his 40s.

According to Kilkenny Carlow Local Radio, it is understood that the man had been missing for several days.

His body has been taken to Waterford University hospital, where a postmortem will now be carried out to determine the cause of death.

The death is being treated as a tragedy and not suspicious at this time.

In a statement given to The Irish Mirror, a Gardaí spokesperson said:

“Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of a body of a man in his 40s in the Gortnahoe area at approximately 1PM on 16 March 2022.

“His body has been taken to Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.”
