A man in his 30s is in custody tonight after being arrested in connection with the shooting of a six-year-old boy in Dublin earlier this week.

The man was arrested at around 3.30pm today and is being held at Ballyfermot Garda Station. It is understood that gardaí are questioning him on suspicion of withholding information relating to the incident and he can be detained for up to 72 hours.

The boy was shot in the neck on Friday night at a housing estate in the Ballyfermot area and is not believed to have been the intended target of the incident. He remains at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin following surgery yesterday to remove pellets from his neck.
