Very sad news.

It’s been reported that fifteen people have died after a truck collided with a bus carrying senior citizens on a highway in Canada yesterday.

Local authorities confirmed the bus was hit by a truck at the intersection of two highways north of Carberry, roughly 170 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

Fifteen people have died as a result of the crash and a further ten are in hospital being treated for their injuries. The bus was carrying 25 people in total.

Jennifer Cumpsty, executive director of Acute Health Services said ten ambulances attended the scene as well as an air ambulance.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Rob Lasson said the town has never seen a “mass casualty situation” like this ever before and that it’s been very “emotionally draining” for police, healthcare staff and the entire community.

Authorities also said that not all of the victims’ families had been notified as of Thursday evening.

According to The Irish Times, a resident of the area, Tracy Leitch was travelling on the highway when she spotted smoke ahead.

She said she passed the heavily damaged semi-truck and another crushed vehicle.

“There was nothing left of the vehicle. I was almost in tears and almost had a panic attack. Like I just felt really sick to my stomach”: she told CTV News.

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau tweeted: “The news from Carberry, Manitoba is incredibly tragic.”

He said: “I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts. I cannot imagine the pain those affected are feeling – but Canadians are here for you.

“Our hearts are broken, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of all the lives impacted by the horrific and devastating tragedy near the Town of Carberry.”
