Young Woman Hospitalised After Drinking Too Much Green Tea

She made a full recovery

A teenager in the UK was reportedly hospitalised after consuming Chinese green tea that she had ordered online as part of a weight-loss plan.

According to BMJ Case Reports the 16-year-old took the beverage three times a day for three months. She then developed a number of symptoms including dizziness and stomach pains.

The young woman was treated for a UTI but was then sent to the hospital when she started developing more symptoms.

It was at this point that doctors discovered that she had herb-induced hepatitis. She is said to have made a full recovery when she stopped drinking the beverage.

Women’s Health Magazine reports that this kind of liver damage can happen when certain herbs, supplements or medicines prevent the liver from clearing out toxins.

But if you’re a fan of a cup of green tea, there’s no need to stop drinking it. The green tea that is sold in supermarkets is not as concentrated, but it is something you need to be wary of if you are ordering online.
