Have you noticed Facebook trying to be a lot friendlier lately?
They have been adding greetings messages to the top of your newsfeed and have also introduced an ‘On This Day’ feature, showing you past (often embarrassing) memories and photos from the archives of your profile. But why are they suddenly trying to be our pal?

According to Chris Cox chief product officer at Facebook, the company are making an effort to be more friendly and warm. ‘Facebook wants to engage with users a bit more, and the greetings and alerts—like the cute privacy dinosaur that reminds people to do a privacy check—make Facebook seem more friendly.’ (The Daily Dot)

The Wall Street Journal have recently reported that people just aren’t posting on the social network at the rate they were previously and these new ideas are all in an effort to make us start posting more often, rather than passively scrolling through the site.
It remains to be seen whether this new initiative will work, or just continue to creep us all out a little bit.
