VIDEO: Galway ‘Rag Week’ Is Off To A Bad Start

The unofficial Rag Week celebrations got out of hand in Galway last night.

An unofficial Rag Week event at Electric Garden and Theatre in Galway had to be shut down last night following a crush outside the club.

A video of the out-of-control crowds surfaced on YouTube earlier today.

Monday marked the start of the unofficial Rag Week celebrations, with today, Tuesday, known as ‘Donegal Tuesday’.

Rag Week is no longer officially organised and supported by student’s unions in Galway, following several incidents of anti-social behaviour in recent years. A number of years ago both GMIT and NUIG cancelled their official Rag Week but that hasn’t stopped students or venues from organising events.

Last night’s events come after a similar crush outside Copper Face Jack’s in Dublin last month, which left one teenager in critical condition in hospital and several others injured.
