On Sunday evening the sky of Belfast lit up in tribute to five-year-old Oscar Knox who lost his battle with neuroblastoma, a cancer of specialised nerve cells, last week.

Paper lanterns were released into the night sky as Belfast City Hall shone the Team Oscar colours.

Thousands have expressed condolences to the Knox family online, with one poem touching the hearts of Mum, Leona and Dad, Stephen.

Paul O’Neill shared a poem he penned in memory of ‘wee Oscar’ on Facebook, reflecting beautifully on the words his parents said about their incredible little boy at his funeral service on Sunday.

Leona spoke of how one of Oscar’s favourite films was Peter Pan and how she and Stephen had explained Oscar would go on a journey there and there would be “no more sore knees, no sore heads and sore tummies”.

The poem opens with Oscar being welcomed to Neverland and being taken by the hand and led by Peter.

Thousands have liked and shared the Facebook post, and father Stephen uploaded it on Twitter thanking Paul for the “wonderful” poem.

Mum Leona added: “This poem gave us closure on Oscar’s send-off, it captures his nature perfectly”.
