Animals are often fawned over when they’re very young, and sometimes become neglected as they get older. When photographer Isa Leshko‘s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease it inspired her to created a very heartwarming photo series.
A collection of portraits entitled, ‘Elderly Animals,’ showcases a range of subjects entering the final stages of their lives.
Leshko’s focus varied, as she capture the four-legged to the fluffy, farm animals to beloved family pets.
Thoroughbred Horse, Age 33.
“I may spend an hour or so simply lying on the ground next to the creature before I take a single image,” she explained.
“This approach helps the animal acclimate to my presence and it allows me to observe the animal without being focused on picture taking.”
