Whether you’re 18 or 28, the day you finally out of chez Mam and Dad is a glorious occasion. The independence, the freedom, the power. You want every bit of it.
It’s the day you’ve waited for all your life.
Here are some unrealistic expectation we all had when we first moved out of home.
The food situation
Expectation: “I’ll cook for myself every night. I’ll try out every recipe I can find. I will be a domestic goddess.”
Reality: Oh wait, you can’t cook to save your life.
And there’s never any food in the fridge. Apparently you have to go out and buy that stuff yourself. Who knew?
The housemates
Expectation: “These people will be my new best friends for life.”
Reality: Apparently, you live with three other people. But you rarely see them. And the one you do see, well you’d actually prefer if you didn’t see them at all.
The money situation
Expectation: You plan to get really organised, sort out your finances and work to a strict budget.
Reality: You’ve never had less money in your life.
The cleaning situation
Expectation: “Keeping a couple of rooms clean can’t be that difficult.”
Reality: It’s actually really difficult to keep your place clean. How the hell do Irish Mammies do it?
Sprite, the truth is refreshing.
