JobBridge Advertise for Fully Qualifed Vet

This is just taking the piss

Cassie Delaney

Holy moly.

JobBridge are under fire again, this time for recruiting for a fully qualified veterninary doctor to “help out around the yard”. As with all JobBridge schemes, the applicant would receive a mere €50 on top of existing social welfare payments.

The Irish Independent approached, the veterinary hospital owner who said “It’s just someone to help out around the yard. It’s a veterinary assistant we are seeking. I have no further comment to make”.

Though advertised as a ‘veterinary assistant,’ the ad clearly stated the successful applicant would have a relevant veterinary degree. Crikey.

A spokesperson for the Veterinary Council of Ireland commented on the post “The Council acknowledges that there are pluses and minuses to the JobBridge Scheme however it is perfectly legal for such an internship to be offered by an employer. The Council also acknowledges that it is disappointing that new graduates cannot find suitable positions and have to rely on social welfare”.

It may be legal but is it fair? Let us know what you think on Twitter @Herdotie
