The television adaptation of JK Rowling’s adult novel The Casual Vacancy is to begin shooting this year.

The story is set in the town of Pagford, where drama is unfolding and boiling in what seems to be an ideal façade.

Production on the mini-series is to begin in the next few months in South West England, with Rowling executive producing with her agent Neil Blair.

The Casual Vacancy was Rowling’s first attempt to write adult fiction and while it received mixed reviews, it still became a bestseller.

The novel was first snapped up by BBC One back in 2012, with HBO coming on board to co-produce it for the US.

It’s said that EastEnders’ Sarah Phelps is to write the adaptation with Doctor Who’s Jonny Campbell to direct three episodes.
