‘I Wasn’t Going To Let Anyone Tell Me I Couldn’t’ – Woman Becomes First Female NY Firefighter To Appear In Annual Calendar

The Fire Department of New York releases a calendar each year showcasing its most buff specimens and the line-up has always consisted solely of men… until now.

According to NY Mag, Danae Mines has been with the service for eleven years and is one of a small number of female firefighters in the city. However, rather than stay on the background, she decided that wanted to join her male colleagues in the annual publication.

While she was told “if I made it in the calendar, I would look like a pinup girl”, she stuck to her guns and the FDNY Calendar Of Heroes now features Danae’s photo… without the slightest hint of a bikini or a suggestive pose.

“I wasn’t going to let anyone tell me I couldn’t do what I wanted to do,” she explained.

“I wanted my picture in the calendar so that young girls and young women can see me and know that they can do this job. I love the picture they took, and I love the month. It’s Women’s History Month.”
