Today is one of the most special days in the calendar. Scratch that, it IS the most special.
That’s right, today we get to celebrate the humble spud.
Happy National Potato Day everyone! Here are 11 great reasons why we love potatoes.
1. So many ways to prepare them...
Fluffy, hard, no problem.
Sick of boiled potatoes? Why not have: chips, roast, mash, baked, pan-fried, au gratin, shredded or stewed potatoes?
2. Comes in all shapes and forms (even sexy shapes)
What’s great about the spud is that not only is it versatile but none of them are ever uniform so you can have a variety in your meal. I mean how could you resist this:

3. You can use them for stencils
Remember back in primary school when the teacher would have make-shift stencils made out of hard potatoes. You could make all sorts of great patterns!

They can tighten and brighten your skin and can be used in masks and face washes. The potato is also known to be a great anti-aging secret.
5. Mr Tayto
How could we not include the king of potatoes Mr Tayto on our list. Look at him! Not only is he producing the best crisps in Ireland but he’s also quite trendy looking. Not many men can pull off yellow pinstripe pants and a red jacket.
6. You can use the word “potato” as an insult.
Although there’s no clear definition of what calling a person a “potato” is, it’s generally accepted that it means “idiot” or “fool.”
For example: You can be such a potato sometimes! Stop being such a potato.
7. Inspires music
A fan of the arts, the potato inspires people to rejoice through the medium of song.
Even the Minions love it.
8. Inspires dance
Not only that but the spud has inspired new forms of dance!
9. Mr & Mrs Potato Head
The wife and husband duo we aspire to be. They may bicker but they’re always there for each other.
10. The potato is social media savvy
Look no further than this Twitter account for proof!
11. THIS.
This is one of the most beautiful hotels in the country There’s no denying that Ireland is one of the most beautiful places in the world, even more so during the summer months. I’m hoping to spend more time in Ireland this summer rather than heading abroad, and there’s one hotel I’m itching to visit […]
I’m a 35-year-old in HR, earning €26k, and this was my biggest financial mistake Let’s be honest, most of us are at least a little bit nosy when it comes to money. We want to know what other people are earning, how they’re actually getting by, and what their spending really looks like (not the […]
