Forget Tinder, OKCupid, Plenty of Fish or any other dating site or app – the best social networking site for finding love is Facebook.

A study on the effects social networking has on an online community’s love life found that of couples who met their partner online through traditional social networking sites were 10% more likely to marry than those who couple up using match-making services.

Respondents to the survey also credit networks like Facebook as more honest, as potential dates are connected on the site with friends and family and so are more likely to be themselves, with accurate profiles and interests.

Speaking about the results, Professor Hall who conducted the research said:

“In part, social networking sites provide a low risk, high reward place to meet people. It’s a good place to do some investigating and a good place to learn about people that doesn’t carry the self-presentational weight of creating an online dating profile.”

Not convinced? Hall also discovered that social networking-based relationships were happier than those that began offline, in traditional ways such as being introduced by mutual friends. 25% of people also admitted to flirting and having started a relationship with someone following a snoop on their Facebook page.

Might be time to take down the last girls’ holiday picture albums so…
