Facebook Employee to be Killed Off in George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones

Fight to the death!

Una Kavanagh

Remember the contest we wrote about where you could have a character named after you AND killed off in George RR Martin’s books? Well the two lucky winners have been chosen!

The fantasy author of A Song of Ice And Fire, the books on which the TV series Game of Thrones is based, offered two people the unique chance to have a guest appearance in his novels – all for a price tag of $20,000.

Two people managed to grab the honour, a 30-year-old Facebook employee called Dave Goldblatt, and another who chose to remain anonymous (for now).

All the money is to be donated to Santa Fe charities, Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot.

“I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this,” Goldblatt said of the prize.

“Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus. I didn’t immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause.”

The two winners get to choose their character’s station in the world be it a lord, knight, master or prostitute. In the end Goldblatt chose to be from Valyria – who are considered to be of incredible noble descent and are known for their steel.

“You read some piece of fiction and for whatever reason you think one particular character or race is cool – and for whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool” he said.

“I’m hoping in future books we get to see more of them”.

We’re looking forward to reading about his character!
