And the National Television Award Goes To…

The cream of the television crop came out in their droves last night for this year's National Television Awards, one of which went to a very familiar face!

Brendan O’Carroll would have been celebrating last night after his show Mrs Brown’s Boys collected the National Television Award for Best Sitcom.

The show, which won a BAFTA last year, has clearly gone down well with British viewers considering they are the people who decide who goes home with what.

O’Carroll accepted the award form Eastenders legend June Brown (Dot Cotton) and thanked his friends and family before joking: “The only person that’s not in the show is my mother and that’s because she is dead.”

As for the other big winners of the night, Coronation Street took home two awards for Serial Drama Performance, which went to Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs), and the hotly-contested Serial Drama.

Eastenders may have missed out on the big soap title of the night but David Witts (Joey Branning) was overjoyed at receiving the prize for Best Newcomer.

Miranda Hart (Call The Midwife) and Colin Morgan (Merlin) were also rewarded for their individual Drama Performances.

Alan Halsall, better known as Tyrone, won the award for Serial Drama Performance.

Ant and Dec also had a good night (as per usual) after bagging the title for Entertainment Presenter for the twelfth year in a row. I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here also took home Entertainment Programme.

And while Simon Cowell was happy to present the boys with their award at the live auditions of Britain’s Got Talent, he wouldn’t have been too happy about losing out in the Talent Show category to Strictly Come Dancing.

Simon Cowell presented the boys with their award via live video.

Downton Abbey (Drama), Frozen Planet (Documentary Series), QI (Comedy Panel Show), This Morning (Daytime) and Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs (Factual Entertainment) all took home awards in their respective categories as well.

The Special Recognition title went to Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley OBE while the Landmark award went to London 2012.
