An 81-year-old man has finally met the son that his wife kept hidden from him for over 50 years.
Tony Trapani has always wanted to have children but he and his wife struggled to conceive, later coming to terms with the fact that they would never have a family of their own.
However, after his wife’s death, Tony found a letter hidden in a filing cabinet that would change his life.
The letter had been sent to Tony 55 years earlier from a woman claiming to have given birth to his son and had been hidden by his wife.
“I have a little boy. He is five years old now. What I’m trying to say, Tony, is he is your son. He was born November 14, 1953,” the letter read.
After discovering the letter, Trapani was introduced to his 61-year-old son Samuel Childress, who had been told that his father wanted nothing to do with him.
“Just to know him now is so important to me. It’s going to fill that void,” said Childress.
The family plans to carry out a DNA test to confirm the link and Tony says that he has no idea why his wife felt that she couldn’t show him the letter.
“Why my wife didn’t tell me. I don’t know. She wanted children. She couldn’t have any. She tried and tried.”
